Importation means goods and services brought to Tanzania from a foreign country.
Import as been followed under the good and services from custom control as per East Africa comunity customs management act.(EACCMA 2004).
Tanzania import are subjected to different stages where by importers is advised to make declaration through of appointing clearing and forwarding agent lodging documents at least seven (7) days before the arrival of the prior vessel.
The following are the documents used in importation.
1. Agent's authorization letter from the importer; this is one of the document used in importation of goods and services there should be agent authorization letter by importer.
2. Bills of entry; This is legal documents to be filled and signed by an importer. It is filled and signed then other necessary documents, assessment and examination of goods are carried out by authority. And offer completing the process an importer can avail for ITC claim on goods.
3. Import license; this is a permission granted by the government to undertake import activities for restricted goods. So, one must file an application to the license authority in order to avail the benefits.
4. Insurance certificate. This is documents required for import customs clearance. This helps authorities to verify the shipment in terms of whether the selling price contains the insurance or not. Also it helps to determine the precise value which eventually decides the import duty aggregate.
5. Technical write up, literature. This is documents which is only required for some specific goods. It describe the features and usage of the products, mostly done for better handling of goods. This documents helps the authority to better define the product and understand the value-added cost under it.
6. Industrial license. This documents also is required for importation of specific commodities. An industrial license can be used as proof to avail the benefit, if an importer wants to avail any import duty benefit.
7. Packing list. This is also the documents used in importation of goods and services, is the one to select the type of document and a means of transportation either the goods to be transported through airways or land through vehicles.
8. Importation permits from TFDA and TBS; when importing goods in Tanzania there are some of the authorities which are dealing with importation we can take a look in Tanzania we have TBS which looks the standards of goods to be imported and exported.
Generally, After obtaining the importation document the importer through different authorities like TANCIS and TBS will give them an access of importing goods and services and importation has got a great advantages to individual and the Nation at all in individual level gives people source of income and improves the living standards of an individual, while in national level it gives availability of goods and services, also build relationship between Nations.
